Forbidden Music

Like most cultural imports, foreign music and instruments have been outlawed. Any instruments which are found are confiscated by the Foreign Imports Bureau, and anyone heard playing it is arrested. It is believed by the shogunate that listening to foreign music will only lead to depravity, especially among their youth.

Instead, of course, the young have used it as a form of rebellion. Underground concerts playing foreign music with foreign instruments can be found all over the poor districts in abandon warehouses. Mostly the poor and working class attend these concerts, but it is popular with middle and upper class teenagers to sneak in and “slum” it for a night.
